Reading through the series for the second time…love it. Not an amazing piece of literature, but its got light sci-fi with some nuggets of philosophy. Shadow of the Hegemon is like Diplomacy and RISK rolled into one, with a narrative to go along with it. Right up my alley.
I’m glad to be reading for enjoyment again, I suppose my pile of academic ‘for fun’ reads will remain a pile, but I won’t add to it now. Those books can be interesting, but are always too in-depth to hold interest very long. Its very rare to find a book that sort-of grips you from start to finish, and is about a issue that matters (Drug Crazy did a good job). Which is why important things are best wrapped in the shell of literature. Like giving medicine to a dog, wrapping it in a treat is the best way to get someone to digest it.

Oof, indoor lacrosse is a different sport altogether. Had a double header last night, Adult open so there were some incredible players. I didn’t even have the energy to see how good or bad I was going…just staying on the field was enough of a feat.
Now I’m off to nurse my soreness and get over this flu~

Its amazing that we as consumers have taken the work of the companies upon ourselves. Its so subtle, they don’t even ask us. Suddenly there are ‘Thank You’ signs on garbage cans, and people start throwing their own stuff away. Did the price of your Big Mac go down? No, but I bet some corporate profits went up.
I had to have spent 15 minutes trying to self check out. It’s an amazingly flawed system. So you have to keep everything on the counter till you pay. Great…until you try to pack more than 3 bags of groceries on. I ended up with a messy pile instead of bagging, because it wouldn’t fit! Ridiculous! Move them and the attendant comes to yell at you. Show your ID for alcohol, show coupons to the attendant, real convenient. Going to the line next time. I don’t mind bagging it myself for lower prices(Winco), but I sure as hell don’t get lower prices for self-checkout. It’s a scam! If this is the way of the future, damn it, touch screens are the bane of my existence~

The cashier just said I looked like Ashton Kutcher.
It actually took me a moment to think about who exactly that was, hah.

Finished reading Siddhartha, a ’spiritual-esque’ book for my Theology class. Theology class which is required as one of their attempts to convert the infidels like myself, or is it heathen? I never know.
A big point in this book was Siddhartha going on his own road to find Nirvana rather than following teachings, saying that teachings can’t answer such questions. This is how I feel in my Western Political Theory class, and all abstract philosophy classes. Ethics I can do because its asking why we should or should do certain things. Tangible motivations and such. Abstract classes like this babble on about the conception of good or the ideal society. Good goals I suppose, if they could ever be achieved. Even if they could, it certainly isn’t going to happen by having psuedo-intellectual debates over it.

So I was thinking today. Alexander the Great was the ruler of the grandest empire in the world. He controlled essentially the entire civilized world, save China. Perhaps Genghis Khan ruled over more territory, but far less monetary and cultural wealth. Given that, Alexander the Great himself was the greatest and most powerful man to ever walk this earth.
Now digest that, in combination with the fact that he was in all likelyhood totally gay.
Connect the dots, and the most powerful person to have ever walked the earth was a gay guy.
Now, with this in mind you’d think the gay community would have this guy as their icon, not the rainbow flag, wouldn’t you?
