Italy
UNDER CONSTRUCTION
Not technically in Europe yet. But I’m about over North Dakota at this point. I asked the flight attendant if they followed German or American laws. The answer was German so I had myself a legal beer on US territory, hah!
This one’s pretty self-explanatory. I’d give anything to see it in its full splendor. It’s suffered a lot over the years.
The inner workings of the Coliseum
By this point I had seen enough churches and was pretty pissed to see that the Pantheon had been converted in to a Catholic Church. Damn Popes.
A very modern work, built to commemorate the late 19th century reunification of Italy under Victor Emmanuel. I like it because it gives me something from which to get a feel for how ancient Rome might have looked, more than just pictures.
Much of the Forum of Rome with the Coliseum in the background
I thought this picture turned out cool. It makes you think when you can see the letters just as they would have been 1600 years ago…
Can you imagine how incredible this would have looked in its prime? This is Palatine hill, the location of the grand palaces of all of the Caesars of Rome.
Excellently preserved arc of Constantine right outside of the Coliseum. Probably so well preserved because the Christians who destroyed Rome had a special thing for Constantine…the whole legalizing their religion thing helps I guess
The lines were long but you have to go! I had a great tourguide for the Palatine Hill so I decided to follow her to go to Vatican the next day.
They didn’t skimp on anything, gorgeous ceilings!
One of my favorite paintings. The School of Athens.
I cheated and took a picture…turned out alright, I got the most famous part in it, if you’ll notice the little God and Adam on the top.
The largest Dome in the world! I believe it still is….anyways its St Peter’s Basilica. Nice place, wasn’t much new though. Very large and worth seeing for sure.
Hate to have painted that one, glad someone did though, magnificent!
